Efficiency in combating femicides in Estado de México
(2020) Nathalia González; Mónica A. Pérez; Admin Arenas
Femicide is one of the main problems currently occurring in Mexico. The level of femicide has been growing during the last decade resulting in many public protests and creation of new public strategies to combat it. However, these strategies seem inefficient as the situation is not getting better. Therefore, it is important to analyze public security systems in order to find possible areas that could lead to lower level of femicide. Estado de Mexico is one of the most violent Mexican states. That is why, we apply Data Envelopment Analysis model to analyze the efficiency of public security system in 120 municipalities in Estado de Mexico. The results revealed very low efficiency across the whole state and a relation between the population size and the level of the efficiency. The results suggest that the efficiency could be improved by eliminating the understaffing of personnel involved in security, gender equity and women´s rights.
