Item type: Item , Caracterización fisicoquímica de los materiales activos presentes en pilas gastadas del tipo Ni-Cd segregadas de un lote de pilas desechadas en la ciudad de Caracas(Universidad de Los Andes, 2015) Alberto Moccia Paradisi; Carlos Romero; Raúl Orta Rodríguez; Pedro DelvastoIn this work, a batch of 2.5 tons of spent household batteries collected in Caracas between 2011 and 2012 was studied and the results were shown. The fraction of the batch representing the Ni-Cd batteries was studied separately, due to its elevated toxicity. The physicochemical characterization of this type of batteries showed that nickel was the main element (57 % wt) in the cathodic material, under the form of Ni and Ni(OH)2. Whereas, in the anodic material, it was found that the main element was cadmium (65 % wt), under the form of Cd(OH)2.
