Service-Learning in an Alpha Section of Introductory Sociology
    (2010) Barbara H. Vann
This is a course in microsociology. Its focus is the relationship between the individual and the social world, thus the title, Self & Society. The underlying theoretical assumption is that we construct our social reality. The way we do this is through the process of interaction with others. We learn the rules of social interaction—the roles, norms, values, etc., particular to our society—through the process of socialization. In other words, we learn to become social beings. Once we have learned these things, how do we present ourselves to others, and how do others perceive us? And all this time, you thought all you had to do was act naturally!!
