Caracterización fisicoquímica de los materiales activos presentes en pilas gastadas del tipo Ni-Cd segregadas de un lote de pilas desechadas en la ciudad de Caracas

In this work, a batch of 2.5 tons of spent household batteries collected in Caracas between 2011 and 2012 was studied and the results were shown. The fraction of the batch representing the Ni-Cd batteries was studied separately, due to its elevated toxicity. The physicochemical characterization of this type of batteries showed that nickel was the main element (57 % wt) in the cathodic material, under the form of Ni and Ni(OH)2. Whereas, in the anodic material, it was found that the main element was cadmium (65 % wt), under the form of Cd(OH)2.
Determinación del desarrollo testicular aviar de los machos reproductores pesados de la línea Ross 308 en relación con la edad y el peso

The research was conducted in several batches of Ross 308 broiler breeders in order to determine the testicular development of broiler breeder males and its relation to the live weight of the animal in different weeks. The broiler breeders studied here were treated under the same parameters of feeding and management, and were between 15 and 62 weeks of life. For sample taking purposes, males were desensitized with a modified environment chamber to avoid suffering and then sacrificed. Then, the testes of males were removed and weighed. Data from weighing were tabulated and entered into the Statgraphics® Centurion XV program, version 2.15.06. To make the appropriate statistical analysis, two prediction equations were developed: one to predict the weight of the animal according to the week of life, and another to predict male testicular weight according to live weight. A table was designed in which the testicular weight of broiler breeder males was recorded according to their live weight in each week. It was concluded that the live weight of the animal and testicular weight are directly proportional. Gonadal development in breeding males from the onset of sexual maturity until they left the farm was also observed.
Estandarización, intercambiabilidad y metrología dimensional

El propósito de este libro es aportar a los programas de Mecánica y Manufactura un documento de referencia sobre los conceptos fundamentales y la filosofía de los principios de intercambiabilidad, estandarización y metrología ya tradicionales. Estos conceptos han hecho posible no solamente la masificación y diversificación de la producción de bienes de capital, el incremento de la productividad, la confiabilidad y la mantenibilidad, sino que también se han constituido como valores tecnológicos culturales y pilares del desarrollo productivo; particularmente en sectores como el metalmecánico, el de fabricación de partes y componentes para la industria automotriz y del transporte en general. Es deseable que todos los atributos de calidad de los componentes mecánicos, las unidades de ensamble y módulos (dimensiones, acabados superficiales, desviaciones dimensionales y geométricas, y grados de exactitud, entre otros), que componen los mecanismos, los equipos y los sistemas, sean diseñados para la manufactura y que se utilicen con conocimiento las herramientas de modelado y simulación disponibles para asegurar los atributos de funcionalidad, fiabilidad y calidad. Hoy, cuando más allá de la producción en masa se ha evolucionado a la manufactura esbelta, los sistemas de producción dependen mucho de la visión global sobre el conjunto completo de actividades y tareas acompasadas para manufacturar productos, equipos y sistemas: enfoque de mercado, diseño de producto, ingeniería detallada, coordinación de la cadena de suministro, operaciones y procesos de fábrica, así como ventas, servicio y reciclaje de producto terminado. La producción debe ser funcional, diversificada, fiable y en ella debe considerarse, en todas las etapas, la participación de personal desde el piso de taller de la empresa hasta las oficinas ejecutivas.
