    ¿Inferencia y razonamiento probabilístico o difuso?
(Universidad de Los Andes, 2004) Alvaro Torres M.; Carolina Tranchita R.
Data and information analysis, together with the representation and modeling of the uncertainties associated with real world phenomena and reality perception are fundamental tasks in any engineering work. Traditionally, uncertainty has been represented by the probability theory. However, there are uncertainty types which could be better represented by other theories like fuzzy sets, possibility theory and Depster-Shafer theory, among others. This paper describes uncertainty types and the use of fuzzy sets, fuzzy inference and fuzzy reasoning as alternative to well known techniques of probabilistic inference and reasoning when vagueness is present and expert knowledge and experience is to be included in the reasoning system.
