Fibrolipoma lingual: Reporte de un caso y revisión de la literatura
(2014) María León Camacho; Oswaldo Parra Márquez; Carla David; Domingo Stea Tortorice
Fibrolipoma (FL) is a rare benign soft tissues neoplasm of oral cavity, it is a histological  variant of lipoma, with uncertain etiology, female sex predilection and age group between the third and fourth decades of life. The aim of this study was to report the lingual FL clinical finding. A 49 years old female patient was referred to the Oral Medicine Service of Autonomous Institute Univertitary Hospital of Los Andes for a tongue swelling, with high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus as a personal history. Intraoral clinical examination allows observing an exophytic lesion, rounded, located in the lateral border of the tongue, it was about 1 cm in diameter, similar to the lingual mucosa with slightly yellowish surface, sessile base, firm consistency to palpation, with short episodes of pain at food contact and injuries, it presented no bleeding and had 1 year of evolution. The therapeutic approach consisted in the surgical removal and histopathological analysis of the sample, which revealed the presence of adipose tissue divided into lobules by fibrous septa which are characteristics of this entity. FL should be considered as a presumptive diagnoses option of soft tissue injuries, even though it may appear in places where there are not structurally fatty tissue deposits.

Osteoma de Condilo Mandibular : Reporte de un caso
(2013) Manuel E. Hernández Valecillos; Hildangeli Paredes Freitez; María León Camacho; Domingo Stea Tortorice
Maxillofacial tumor lesions can cause mandibular deviation, limitation of mouth opening, malocclusion, severe pain and facial asymmetry. Benign tumorlike lesions of bone as a maxillary osteoma may infrequently appear, in the temporomandibular joint producing changes that harm the individual’s health. Osteoma’s etiology is unknown, it generally unilateral is mostly present in male. It mostly affects the maxillary sinuses and the jaw’s angle or condyle. We report a case of a 40-years old female patient from Merida, who attended to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery office at the Service of dentistry at the Autonomous Institute Hospital of the University of Los Andes (IAHULA) referring pain while moving the jaw, facial asymmetry with mandibular deviation to the left and limitation for mouth opening. The treatment was conducted by a pre-auricular approach and total condylectomy; the extracted material was sent for biopsy. Biopsy results showed right condylar osteoma. When performing total excision of the lesion, facial asymmetry was significantly improved as well as articular functionality. Clinical and radiographic controls were performed at 6, 12 and 18 months, with no signs of relapse. The patient was referred for orthodontic treatment and rehabilitation.
