Accidentes de tránsito y el consumo de alcohol en una unidad de urgencia de La Paz, Bolivia

The aim of this quantitative, descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was to characterize the distribution and characteristics of motor vehicle accidents related to alcohol consumption. The sample was composed of 62 drivers and pedestrians, over 15 years old, who were involved in motor vehicle accidents involving alcohol, and were attended at the Emergency Unit of the Clinical Hospital of La Paz - Bolivia. A survey designed by the researchers to collect partner-demographic data and morbidity of the victim was applied and data that evaluated the alcohol consumption of the driver responsible for the accident was collected. The results demonstrated that 71% of the victims were men; 32.3% were between 21 and 30 years old; 29% were students and 25.8% were the drivers. This study shows the characterization of victims, alcohol consumption and accidents.
Conocimientos de estudiantes de enfermería sobre alcohol y drogas

The aim of this study was to verify the knowledge of nursing students regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, particularly addiction, tolerance, withdrawal and intoxication, the reasons students give for drug addiction and commencement, and personal interest in the issue of drug use. A descriptive-exploratory design was used, with a sample of 44 students, by applying a semi-structured questionnaire, constructed by the researchers based on the objectives, with open and closed questions, totaling 24 points. Ethical procedures were followed and data were submitted to exploratory descriptive analysis. It was shown that students knowledge is still limited, comprehension about a patients reasons for using and becoming addicted is incomplete and the interest is current.
Opinión de universitarios Bolivianos sobre el uso de alcohol en el contexto universitario

Qualitative research inquiring into the university world about the values of young people's life to successfully offset the danger of alcohol consumption. Discussion groups were implemented in workshops with 46 university students. The results show that that Bolivian society is very tolerant and permissive towards alcohol consumption by male university students. Values like pride, self-respect, responsibility and capacity for reflection constitute a framework of regulatory action, but it is not generalized.
