Item type: Item , Crop Insurance, Disaster Payments, and Land Use Change: The Effect of Sodsaver on Incentives for Grassland Conversion(Cambridge University Press, 2011) Roger Claassen; Joseph Cooper; Fernando CarriazoSubsidized crop insurance may encourage conversion of native grassland to cropland. The Sodsaver provision of the 2008 farm bill could deny crop insurance on converted land in the Prairie Pothole states for 5 years. Supplemental Revenue Assistance payments, which are linked to crop insurance purchases, could also be withheld. Using representative farms, we estimate that Sodsaver would reduce expected crop revenue by up to 8% and expected net return by up to 20%, while increasing the standard deviation of revenue by as much as 6% of market revenue. Analysis based on elasticities from the literature suggests that Sodsaver would reduce grassland conversion by 9% or less.Item type: Item , The Demand for Air Quality: A Case study in Bogotá, Colombia(University of Minnesota Rochester, 2015) Fernando Carriazo; John Alexander Gomez; Carriazo, Fernando; Gomez, John AlexanderUsing a (second stage) hedonic housing model, this paper identifies an inverse demand function for air quality in Bogota, the fourth most polluted city in Latin America (annual average of PM10 52 mg/m3). We use precipitation and distance to monitoring stations as instruments for pollution. We found that the monthly benefits of compliance with the U.S Environmental Pollution Agency standard (50 mg/m3 – annual average), and the far more stringent World Health Organization standard (20 mg/m3 – annual average) are U$7.12 and U$72.91per household respectively. Accordingly, these values represent about 1% and 8% of the average household income.Item type: Item , The Demand for Air Quality: A Case Study in Bogott, Colombia(RELX Group (Netherlands), 2015) Fernando Carriazo; John GomezItem type: Item , The Effect of Commuting Costs to Employment Centers on Urban Property Values: A Spatial Analysis in Bogott, Colombia(RELX Group (Netherlands), 2015) Fernando Carriazo; Julian Peñaranda
