    Reportes Recientes De Accidentes Ofídicos En La Región Noroccidental Del Estado Guárico, Venezuela

    Reportes Recientes De Accidentes Ofidicos En La Region Noroccidental Del Estado Guarico, Venezuela Se presentan datos sobre la frecuencia de accidentes ofidicos en el Sector El Castrero, San Juan de los Morros, Estado Guarico, Venezuela, durante el periodo 1997-2003. Se registraron 24 casos, ninguno de ellos de gravedad. La mayoria de los accidentes ocurren durante el pico de la epoca de sequia (Abril) y el pico de la temporada lluviosa (Agosto y Septiembre). La mapanare (Bothrops asper) y la cascabel (Crotalus durissus cumanensis) son las responsables de la mayoria de los accidentes, con la excepcion de un caso por una lora (Philodryas olfersi). Abstract: Recent reports of skake accidents in the northwestern region of Guarico State, Venezuela We present data on the frequency of snake accidents in the sector El Castrero, San Juan de los Morros, Estado Guarico, Venezuela, during the period 1997-2003. 24 cases were recorded, none of them of importance. The majority happened during the height of the dry season (April) and the height of the rainy season (August and September). The lancehead “mapanare” (Bothrops asper) and the rattle snake “cascabel” (Crotalus durissus cumanensis) are responsible for the majority of the accidents, with the exception of one case by a “lora” (Philodryas olfersi).
