Sulphide production, sulphate reduction, concentration of Volatile Fatty Acids (VFAs), enzyme activities and Fluorescence in situ hybridisation were determined. Approximately 5 mM of sulphide was produced during anaerobic digestion of wheat straw, while the production with newspaper as carbon source was the lowest (ca.1 mM). The sulphide production (2–5 mM) in the semi-continuous culture of the consortium A10, using wheat straw supported Cu(II), Pb (II) and Zn (II) removal up to 90%.Item type: Item , Lead Removal by Reverse Osmosis: Seeking Sustainability in the Operation of Advanced Technologies: A Preliminary Study(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, 2025) Jennifer Michelle López-Jiménez; Paola Andrea Alvizuri-Tintaya; Georgina Chávez; Vanesa G. Lo-Iacono-Ferreira; Juan Ignacio Torregrosa-López; Jaime Lora-GarcíaNowadays, stricter control and rigorous landfill standards are being promoted in industries that produce liquid discharges into the environment. The development of innovative and sustainable technologies to remove lead from water is of great importance in all aspects, with safe recycling practices, especially with high lead concentrations, such as in mining activities. The experiment was conducted at a reverse osmosis (RO) pilot plant, operated at low impact pressures and designed to optimize energy savings without compromising separation efficiency. By reducing energy consumption, the process not only lowers operational costs but also minimizes the environmental impact associated with high energy consumption. The results show that RO operated at low pressures successfully removed 99.75% of lead at a pressure of 10 bar and a flux of 67.44 L/m2·h, demonstrating a practical and sustainable solution for lead removal at pressures of 5, 7.5, and 10 bar, which are considered low pressures since they are below 1.0 MPa. In addition to its high removal efficiency, the process offers significant advantages in terms of energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint. Enhancing the efficiency of this technology is crucial, not only to decrease operational costs but also to reduce environmental impact.Item type: Item , Membrana de cáscara de huevo para la curación de heridas superficiales en ratones(National Institute of Health, 2022) Noelia Mendoza; Georgina Chávez; Omar ArayaIntroduction: Eggshell membranes offer beneficial properties for tissue regeneration and their biomedical applications are important. Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of hen unfertilized eggshell membranes in the treatment of superficial open wounds in mice compared to the conventional procedure. Materials and methods: 15-mm linear wounds were made on the back of 10 male CF-1 mice. The mice were divided into four groups. One group did not receive any treatment and the other three were given conventional treatment, eggshell membranes dressing, and eggshell membranes powder. The evolution of the wounds was registered by photographs. We measured wounds length and healing time and calculated the length reduction rate and the percentage of healing. The healing percentages were analyzed by ANOVA with a post hoc Dunnett test (p<0.05). Results: The treatments with eggshell membranes and membrane powder had a woundlength reduction rate of 1.009 and 1.020 mm/day, greater than the conventional treatment, of 0.852 mm/day, and a healing time of 12 days, i.e., less than the 16-day conventional treatment. The statistical analysis showed significant differences between eggshell membrane treatments and the conventional treatment. Conclusions: Eggshell membrane dressing and eggshell membrane powder applied to open superficial wounds in mice were more effective than the conventional treatment in regenerating injured tissue in mice. Se brinda un panorama del uso de la nanotecnologa en tratamiento de aguas residuales a nivel mundial yItem type: Item , The Importance of the Brand to Promote Tourist Destinations: The Cases of Porto (Portugal) and La Paz (Bolivia)(Springer Nature, 2023) Fátima Matos Silva; Helena Albuquerque; Makhabbat Ramazanova; Georgina Chávez; Cecilia Mariaca; Carolina ReyesItem type: Item , Virtual Accessibility to Enhance Research Efficiency: The Case of Bolivian Universities(Springer Nature, 2023) Makhabbat Ramazanova; Fátima Matos Silva; Helena Albuquerque; Georgina Chávez; Ing Cynthia Bojanic; Ingrid Orlandrini; Edgar Iñiguez; Jorge Eduardo Fuentes Ávila; Beatriz Margarita Barrera Zuleta; Silvia Marín Guzmán
