Aplicación del método de elementos finitos en la simulación de zonas susceptibles a movimientos de masa en la franja costera del Estado Carabobo, Venezuela
(2008) Grelys A. Sosa Contreras; María Alam; María Elisa Elberg Rojas
This investigation has as main objective to simulate the zones of geologic threat in the coastal strip of the Carabobo State in Venezuela, using the method of Finite Elements, to quantify the effects of possible mass movements in the area. The parameters used in the simulation are obtained from laboratory testing of rock samples obtained in field and characterizing soils and rocks of the studied zones. The methodology used in this investigation followed four steps. The first step corresponded to the collection of theoretical information referring to the study, such as maps, reports, works of the area and geomorfologic data. Next the field work was made where the existing geologic conditions defined the most prone zones to mass wasting and where samples were collected to for laboratory testing. The third stage was carried out in the laboratory where geomechanical parameters were obtained for the simulation. The last stage corresponded to the generation of geometries, verification of edge and load conditions of edge and loads to generate the simulation models in which the obtained values in laboratory and lithologic characteristics were incorporated. The results obtained in this investigation show four main zones prone to mass instability. From this study, we conclude that the values of vertical component of displacement, elastic unitary deformation and shear stress may define areas of instability, which generate danger for near populations and their access facilities. The results of this study are incorporated by the Corporation of Development of the Central Region of Venezuela, in the Regulatory Plan of Arrangement of the Venezuelan Territory.
