    This article analyzes the military campaign that, in 1817 ensured the possession and incorporation of the Venezuelan south to the process of independence. The different stages in which this complex military day was completed are described chronologically; and the strategic, logistical and geopolitical transcendence advantages of the patriotic occupation of this province are discussed, as a fundamental factor to explain and understand the drastic change of course that the revolution of independence acquired in Venezuela and other South American territories, between 1817 and 1824

    This article offers information on the general conditions that weakened the colonial power and institutions of the province of Guayana, the first decades of the 19th century; and the incidence of this unfavorable situation for the benefit of the military plans and objectives that in 1817 allowed the republican liberation and occupation of southern Venezuela. In this context, the continental geopolitical repercussions of this military act are analyzed, in favor of the South American emancipatory process, as well as for the concretion of the ideas of American integration defended by Simon Bolivar.
