A large new species of Passiflora, supersect. Laurifolia, ser. Quadrangulares (Passifloraceae) from the sub-Amazonian forests of Ecuador, with notes on its taxonomic alliance and distribution
    (Q15088586, 2023) J.R. KUETHE; Kabir Montesinos; HENRY X. GARZÓN-SUÁREZ; Lou Jost
We here describe and illustrate Passiflora yolandae, a new species of Passiflora subgenus Passiflora, ser. Quadrangulares, from east-central Ecuador, and discuss its morphology, phenology, distribution, and relationships with other closely related species. This species is most notable for its unusual pendent inflorescence, with the flowers borne on relatively long and slender peduncles, with which it is readily different from its nearest related species. The flower buds, during the early stages of development, are nearly perfectly spherical. Literature studies have shown this plant to be found and collected during previous surveys; however, the sterile condition of those specimens never warranted it the recognition as a new species. We evaluate its conservation status as Endangered. An identification key to the species of Passiflora ser. Quadrangulares is provided.

Resolving the Passiflora guentheri and P. mapiriensis enigma: identifying a third member of Passiflora sect. Simplicifoliae from the eastern Yungas, Bolivia
    (Q15088586, 2025) J.R. KUETHE; JOSÉ A. BALDERRAMA; A C.; HERMES JUSTINIANO; Mattias Lanas
Two hereto elusive and misunderstood species of Passiflora sect. Simplicifoliae (Passifloraceae), Passiflora guentheri and P. mapiriensis, have been studied and evaluated. This study has shown maintainable differences between the species confirming their taxonomic separation, but questions are raised regarding their origin information and their type localities. From the manuscripts, both species were described as being collected from the exact same locality, which seem unlikely given their close taxonomic alliance. An expedition to Bolivia revisited this location, but also surveyed a wider area to better understand their actual distribution and evaluate the botanical differences between either species. This has shown some consistent botanical traits that warrant their speciation, and examples are given in this paper. Following an extensive planimetric study of the species from this taxonomic group, a third species, here proposed as Passiflora chaskajina sp.nov. is added to the Bolivian flora. The ecology, history, conservation and distribution of the Bolivian members of P. sect. Simplicifoliae has been commented on in this paper.
