Item type: Item , ADOLESCENT DECISION-MAKING ABOUT SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE ISSUES(2007) Elvia Vargas Trujillo; Juanita Henao; Constanza GonzálezThe aim of this study was to describe youth sexual and reproductive decision making styles, as well as cognitions associated to them. Testimonies were obtained through in depth interviews carried out with a sample of 72 adolescents from Bogota and Cali , 48 women and 24 men. The authors analyze the way cognitions - knowledge, social norms, beliefs, attitudes, values, expectancies, goals and meanings- constructed in the socio-cultural context, guide youth decision making towards establishing romantic relationships, having sexual intercourse, using contraceptive methods, getting married, getting pregnant or having an abortion. The findings of the study led to recommendations for the design of sexual education programs that include the different socialization agents.Item type: Item , Emergence of Qualitative Research in Colombian Psychology: A Beginning that Still Does not End(2006) Jorge Larreamendy-Joerns; Juanita Henao; Alexandra ArangoThis article deals with the processes of emergence and evolution of qualitative research in psychology in Colombia. Two major arguments are advanced. First, these processes can only be fully understood in the light of the history of psychology in Colombia, and, at the same time, within the context of emergence and consolidation of the social sciences in Colombia. Second, the evolution of qualitative research in North American psychology coincides in some aspects with its corresponding path in Colombian psychology, even though the former exhibits some distinctive features. This article begins with a synthesis of some attempts to divide into historical periods the evolution of qualitative research in the United States. Then, it offers a historical view of psychology in Colombia. Finally, the article proposes three major historical periods to account for the emergence and evolution of qualitative research in our discipline. As a conclusion, the process of development of qualitative research in Colombia is compared to that in the United States and research challenges are proposed for Colombian scholars to address in the years to come. Además, se establecieron los estilos de toma de decisiones de las adolescentes y sus parejas. Los resultados permitieron derivar recomendaciones para el desarrollo de programas de educación sexual que incluyan a los distintos agentes de socialización.
