    Avances y desafíos en el control de la enfermedad de chagas en Venezuela y un estudio de caso en el estado Mérida

    Chagas disease is a public health problem that aff ects millions of people in Latin America. Th is article provides a brief historical review about the disease, as well as the achievements of the Control Program of Chagas disease in Venezuela (PCECh) and the new challenges that arise. In addition, a case of study is presented in the community of Chiguara in Merida state through community participation in the capture, report and delivery of insects in Triatomine Notifi cation Posts in educational and health units, it was determined the presence of several species of Triatominae encroaching houses in this town, especially during night hours, indicating that may be being attracted to light. Th e epidemiological signifi cance of this fi nding and the new challenges to be overcome by the PCECh are discussed and it intends to join the program as project Merida Educating City.
