Modern dentistry using guided tissue regeneration and tissue engineering in periodontal defects and gingival recession treatment, applying surgical techniques such autologous grafts have shown excellent results. The objetive was to determine the efficiency of gingival connective tissue analogs, obtained from cultured fibroblasts seeded on a commercial collagen scaffold, for grafting in Wistar rats induced gingival recession. The methodology Connective tissue analog was developed sowing a human gingival fibroblasts culture on a collagen scaffold Membracel®-O, at the same time it was induced a 2 mm gingival recession in the central incisors of three Wistar rats, lifting a Newman flap to create a marginal bone dehiscence; 45 days after, the connective analog graft was inserted in rat 2, rat 3 received a Membracel ®-O graft without cells and rat 1 didn’t received any graft leaving it as a control, finally the animals were clinically evaluated every week before euthanasia. The results: Rat 1 maintained the 2mm gingival recession, rat 2 achieved an insertion gain of 2 mm also presenting increased biotype and rat 3 presented a 1.5 mm gingival recession. It can be suggested that using Membracel ®-O to produce connective tissue analogues may be an alternative to gingival recession treatment since insertion gain was achieved with no evidence of clinical signs of rejection.

Plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP) en la regeneración ósea de alvéolos post extracción
(2014) Annia Manoochehri; María Vielma; Leonel Castillo
The alveolar reabsorption produced after dental extraction results in aesthetic and functional problems. The need to improve the bone regeneration has led to the emergence of various methods to achieve it, but the high cost of these materials has limited their use. In recent years it has been implemented the use of inexpensive and non-toxic biomaterials, emerging the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) as a safe and profitable in the bone regenerative treatment. The aim of this investigation was to analyze bone regeneration in post-extraction socket with the use of PRP. It was performed an analytical experimental study, prospective and longitudinal. There were taken into account 15 post-extraction sockets of male and female patients, aged between 18 and 55 years old. After the extraction was made it was applied PRP in the alveolus, and successive radiographic controls were conducted: immediate postoperative, at 4 and 16 weeks post-surgery. The radiographic images were studied with ImageJ ® program, which recorded the changes in the socket. Radiographically, the process of bone regeneration was categorized in the range of moderate bone regeneration at 4 weeks, while at 16 weeks ostensible regeneration was achieved after application of PRP.

Plasma rico en plaquetas en la cicatrización de tejidos blandos de la cavidad bucal
(2014) Andrés Garay; Cesar A. Altuve; Leonel Castillo; Anajulia González Betancourt; Jenair del Valle Yépez Guillén
In oral surgery, the healing process is very important and can be decisive in its success. In this regard, the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is outlined as an aid in tissue regeneration processes, therefore the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of PRP on the oral cavity soft tissues healing. For that purpose, we studied 8 patients who had bilateral impacted third molars. After making the incisions for teeth extraction, PRP was applied on one side (experimental group) at the level of the incision and on the other side was not applied any biomaterial (control group). In order to evaluate the healing of wounds, scales were used for inflammation, pain, and measuring the crevicular sulcus depth of the lower second molar, at days 1, 7 and 45. The results based on the pre-surgical and post-surgical data analysis, indicated that PRP has a favorable effect on inflammation and reinsertion of the periodontal ligament of second molars mainly; in addition PRP slightly decrease postoperative pain, therefore it is concluded that in surgical procedures of the oral cavity PRP may be considered as a valid biomaterial to improve healing processes.
