Usos del pasado prehispánico en las tiendas de comercio del Chorro de Quevedo en Bogotá, Colombia
(Universidad de Los Andes, 2024) Leticia Benítez; Leticia Elizabeth Rojas
Through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, mapping, and data analysis based on a theoretical framework, this article aims to show that, in the stores located around the Chorro de Quevedo square in La Candelaria, Bogotá, products that imitate pre-Hispanic art or make reference to it are sold with the aim of financial profit or of promoting an “ancestral” identity. Those who buy these products, according to the sellers, seek the exotic and regard them as souvenirs or else identify with pre-Hispanic history. The relation between the sale of these products and the Chorro de Quevedo is based on identity, history, commerce, and tourism.
