    Assertiveness, Trait Competitiveness and Perception of Performance as Emotional Intelligence Predisposing Factors

    Abstract This research aims to analyse the influence of emotional intelligence (EI) subscales as predictors of assertiveness, trait competitiveness and perception of performance. First, the researchers develop a theoretical model based on a literature review. Second, 383 university students answer the Multifactorial Inventory of Emotional Competencies (MIEC). Results capture those three stages of emotions in each respondent and are contrasted with the literature. Third, the structural equation model with latent variables, under the partial least squares method, shows that there are subscales of emotional intelligence that explain about 40 % of emotional assertiveness, 40 % of trait competitiveness and 44 % of perception of job performance. Finally, the literature shows the value of these emotional competencies in the business and entrepreneurial environment and affirms that they influence the organisations’ performance.
