Item type: Item , Adopción de TIC en la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana Bucaramanga, Colombia(2015) Alba Soraya Aguilar Jiménez; Marianela Luzardo Briceño; Ludym Jaimes CarrilloInformation and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have introduced a road to new practices in university education, which has led institutions to confront changes in technology adoption. This article shows the results of a study conducted with teachers and students of Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana Bucaramanga, in order to identify factors related to ICT incorporation from four perspectives: teachers, students, methodologies and institution. An exploratory factorial analysis was conducted. Adoption rate was calculated based on studied perspectives. It concludes the importance of teachers’ role, inherent methodological changes and institutional compromise required to materialize adoption. Variables sociodemográficas de los docentes en la Universidad de Los Andes(2020) Marianela Luzardo Briceño; Beatriz Elena Sandia Saldivia; Alba Soraya Aguilar JiménezThis study was aimed at determining the relation between socio-ethnographic features of academics of two faculties at the University of the Andes in Venezuela, and the knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and how frequent this is used. It is a descriptive-relational study for which a questionnaire measuring academics’ ICT skills was designed. The results show that academics trained in scientific and technical areas know ICT more and use it more frequently than the ones trained in social sciences. Additionally, length of service and promotion ladder heavily influence this: academics, who are at the bottom of the promotion ladder and whose service is not long, are more likely to know ICT more and use it more frequently in teaching.Item type: Item , Cuán gramaticalmente complejos son los títulos de los artículos científicos en las ciencias naturales(2015) Johanna Entralgo; Françoise Salager‐Meyer; Marianela Luzardo BriceñoThis paper examines a corpus of 150 titles of research articles published between 2010 and 2013 in Anglo-American natural sciences journals (physics, chemistry and biology) in order to determine their lexical density and grammatical and morphosyntactic features. Towards that end, the frequency of present and past participles, prepositions, coordinating and subordinate conjunctions, and the frequency and length of compound words was recorded in each title. The total number of content and function words was also recorded so as to determine title lexical density. ANOVA tests were applied in order to assess whether statistically significant differences in the frequency of the above mentioned variables were detected within and across disciplines and in the whole corpus. Item type: Item , Titling and authorship practices in medical case reports: a diachronic study(Equinox Publishing, 2014) Françoise Salager‐Meyer; Marı́a Ángeles Alcaraz Ariza; Marianela Luzardo BriceñoThis paper is a diachronic analysis of a corpus of 180 titles drawn from Case Reports (CRs) published in the BMJ and BMJ Case Reports between 1840 and 2009. The corpus was divided into three blocks, and the frequency of occurrence of 69 text-internal variables was recorded in each title. Between-block comparisons were carried out, and Student's t-tests were applied to the quantitative results. Our findings show that CR titles have evolved over the 160-year period studied in the sense that they have increased in length, syntactic complexity, semantic richness and title-type diversity. Authorship patterns and collaboration practices have changed too. Although internationalization of case reporting has increased over time, today's preferred practice is still local collaboration. The only variable that has remained constant over the years is the nominal nature of CR titles. We put forth several social and scientific factors that could account for the various shifts observed. We claim that non-informativeness of CR titles that persisted over time can be explained by the fact that CR authors are reluctant to give a generalization flavor to their findings.
