A NEW GLASSFROG OF THE COCHRANELLA GRANULOSA GROUP (ANURA: CENTROLENIDAE) FROM A BOLIVIAN CLOUD FOREST
(Herpetologists' League, 2006) Rodrigo Aguayo; Michael B. Harvey
We describe a new species of Cochranella from cloud forests in La Paz, Bolivia. The new species is assigned to the C. granulosa Group and characterized by the presence of crenulate folds, distinctive coloration, and the first finger shorter than the second. The new species occurs in sympatry with C. spiculata and C. sp.

New Species ofApostolepis(Squamata: Colubridae) from the Gran Chaco in Southern Bolivia
(American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, 2001) Michael B. Harvey; Lucindo Gonzales A.; Gustavo Scrocchi
A new species of Apostolepis is described from Izozog in the Gran Chaco of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It and Apostolepis dorbignyi are the only species known from the Gran Chaco morphoclimatic domain. The new species is one of the most distinctive members of the genus and can be easily distinguished from all congeners by a unique suite of characteristics. Only the third supralabial enters the orbit, and this characteristic is unknown in other elapomorphines. The new species and A. vittata share several apomorphic characters, and these species are hypothesized to be each other's closest relative.

Redescription and biogeography of Mabuya cochabambae Dunn with comments on Bolivian congeners (Lacertilia: Scincidae)
(Q15088586, 2008) Michael B. Harvey; Rodrigo Aguayo; Aurélien Miralles
On the basis of new material, observations in the field, and data from living specimens, we redescribe Mabuya cochabambae Dunn and discuss its distribution and biogeography. Morphological and molecular evidence strongly suggests that M. cochabambae and M. dorsivittata are sister taxa. In addition to M. cochabambae, we tabulate morphological data for three other Mabuya occurring in Bolivia: M. dorsivittata Cope, M. frenata (Cope), and M. guaporicola Dunn. Mabuya altamazonica Miralles et al. and M. nigropunctata (Spix) both occur in Bolivia, specimens of the former coming from the western lowlands and of the latter from the eastern lowlands of central Santa Cruz. Finally, we propose a new key to the eight species of Mabuya occurring in Bolivia.

REVISION OF THE VENOMOUS SNAKES OF BOLIVIA. II: THE PITVIPERS (SERPENTES: VIPERIDAE)
(2005) Michael B. Harvey; James Aparicio E.; Lucindo Gonzales A
Twelve species (Bothriopsis bilineata, B. oligolepis, B. taeniata, Bothrocophias microphthalmus, Bothrops andianus, B. atrox, B. jonathani, B. moojeni, B. neuwiedi, B. sanctaecrucis, Crotalus durissus, Lachesis muta) and five genera of pitvipers are known from Bolivia. Known ranges of several species are expanded to accommodate recently collected material and Bothrops andianus is reported from Bolivia. The holotypes of Bothrops andianus and Lachesis peruvianus are redescribed. Bothriopsis oligolepis (Werner) is shown to be synonymous with Lachesis peruvianus Boulenger rather than L. chloromelas. We designate a lectotype of Bothriopsis chloromelas (Boulenger) and apply this name to the ornately patterned forest pitviper endemic to the northern and central Andes of Peru. Morphological variation and reproductive data are reported for B. sanctaecrucis. References to Bolivian specimens of B. jararacussu are based on misidentifications of B. sanctaecrucis. Although the known ranges of B. brazili, B. jararacussu, and Bothrocophias hyoprora approach Bolivia's borders, these species have not yet been collected within the country. A rectangular loreal is rare in pitvipers and may be a synapomorphy of two small Andean pitvipers: B. andianus and B. lojanus.

The rare Andean pitviper Rhinocerophis jonathani (Serpentes: Viperidae: Crotalinae): redescription with comments on its systematics and biogeography
(Q15088586, 2009) Paola A. Carrasco; Michael B. Harvey; Arturo Muñoz Saravia
Rhinocerophis jonathani is one of the few species of the Neotropical pitvipers that inhabit xeric areas at elevations above 2000 m in the Andes. We redescribe the species based on new specimens found in southern Bolivia and northwestern Argentina and provide new data on lepidosis, coloration, hemipenial morphology and the first description of cranial osteology. Rhinocerophis jonathani exhibits a suite of unusual features that are of systematic value within bothropoid genera. We compare the species with the phenotypically similar R. alternatus and the probably sympatric R. ammodytoides to address phylogenetic affinities. The new localities for Rhinocerophis jonathani extend the known range of the species southwards, provide data on its habitat and are the first records of its presence in Argentina. This pitviper occurs in a tropical-subtropical transition area in the Southern Andes and is likely to be derived from the Chacoan fauna.

[Two new species of Phrynopus (Anura: Leptodactylidae) from the Bolivian cloud forests].
(National Institutes of Health, 2001) Cidar Rodrigo Aguayo Vedia; Michael B. Harvey
We describe two new species of Phrynopus from cloud forests in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The new species are assigned to the P. peruanus group and are characterized by the presence of basal webbing, distinctive coloration, and by having the first finger shorter than the second. The first of these new species was collected near Montepunko in Parque Nacional Carrasco and is known from eight males and six females. Among its distinctive characteristics are round cream-colored glands on its flanks. A second species is known from one male and one female collected near "Zona de Aguirre" near the northwest border of the park. V and X-shaped blotches and a dorsum that is smooth except for dorsolateral and scapular folds characterize this species. Musculature has rarely been described for species of Phrynopus. The species from Montepunko has unusual gular and thigh musculature that is quite unlike other species of the genus.
