SchwindIn Bolivia, there is increasing interest in incorporating research ethics into study procedures, but there have been inconsistent application of research ethics practices. Minimal data exist regarding the experiences of researchers concerning the ethical conduct of research. A cross-sectional study was administered to Bolivian health leaders with research experience (n = 82) to document their knowledge, perceptions, and experiences of research ethics committees and infrastructure support for research ethics. Results showed that 16% of respondents reported not using ethical guidelines to conduct their research and 66% indicated their institutions did not consistently require ethics approval for research. Barriers and facilitators to incorporate research ethics into practice were outlined. These findings will help inform a comprehensive rights-based research ethics education program in Bolivia.Item type: Item , Exploring perceptions and experiences with research ethics in Bolivia(Elsevier BV, 2014) Sarah Sullivan; Armando Basagoitia; Annette Aalborg; Oscar Lanza; J. The article examines the transformation of health services undertaken by the current socialist government since 2006. A literature review and interviews with decision-makers critically examine the outcome of reforms on criteria linked to health system integration. The study illustrates that Bolivia applied quite comprehensively the WB recommendations. Among others these included indirect privatization through public health services’ restriction of access to a basic package of care and decentralization with devolution. In consequence, the segmentation and fragmentation of the health system was exacerbated, accessibility and quality of care suffered and health status barely improved. The article attempts to locate the relationship between policy, health care delivery and health systems functioning.Item type: Item , Uso indiscriminado de sucedaneos de la leche materna en Bolivia y su impacto en la economía familiar(2016) Oscar Lanza; Patricia Andrea Navarro Coriza; Carla Fátima NinaTancara; María Isabel Paco San Miguel; Sara Rivera Fernández; Kevin Sergio Quiróz Vásquez
