Mucogingival surgery aim is to prevent or treat anatomical, pathological and traumatic gingival defects, such as gingival recession, which cause functional aesthetic and biological difficulties. To treat them, it’s been developed, tissue substitutes obtained from gingival connective cells of the patient. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an analogue connective tissue developed from human gingival fibroblasts, by the treatment of induced gingival recession. 24 male Wistar rats were selected, the periodontal clinical examination was carried out and gingival recession in right central upper incisor was induced; then after cicatrization it was made a flap to place the analog connective tissue graft obtained from a culture of human fibroblasts, in animals of group I, group II received a collagen scaffold without cells and group III were left without graft. The study results showed that 86.66% of the animals in group I had a 2mm insertion gain, while 13.3% won 1.5mm insertion. 86% of the animals of group II won 1mm insertion, and group III had not showed insertion gain, instead they remained with 2mm recession. In conclusion the gingival graft from a fibroblast cell culture can be considered as a viable alternative to achieve root coverage, and even increase the width of attached gingiva and thickness of periodontal biotype.

Intraoral clinical examination of patients with dentures is usually limited to a routine follow-up visit, which does not include a cytological evaluation that allows observing possible cellular changes that may be occurring in the oral mucosa. A descriptive observational, not experimental research was planned, whose objective was to assess possible cellular changes in the different degrees of Subprosthesis Stomatitis. sixty three patients with upper total denture and diagnosed clinically with Subprosthesis stomatitis (SPS) were selected, a cytological sample by the method of scraping for microscopic study was taken in order to determine cytological changes, present in all different degrees of Subprosthesis stomatitis. The results indicate that the predominant degree of SPS was II, and grade III was the most severe lesion of SPS; the presence of superficial cells in all patients was abundant, predominating in the groups of patients with grade II and grade III of SPS, while intermediate cells predominated moderately in all patients. It was demonstrated that oral cytology is a technique simple, economical, applicable to large population, and of great value in the field of dental prevention.

(2014) Jordi Parra; Elizabeth Tovitto; Gerardo Moreno; P Rosalba Florido; Carlos Javier Omaña Cepeda
Introduction: Chimo is a soft paste of blackish color coming from the tobacco, which contains nicotine in its composition generating damage in the oral cavity that range from a simple vasoconstriction until the development of pre-malignant lesions that can be converted to long-term oral cancer. This is a descriptive cross-sectional research that aims to determine the cellular changes in the oral mucosa of consumers of chimo. Material and Methods: The study sample consisted of 120 patients consumers of chimo habitants of the Paramo Merideno, to which it took them a cytological sample by the method of scraping for microscopic study, achieving to determine the cytological changes present in the oral mucosa. Results: it was noted that the cellular component in the cytological specimens, affected were found in different levels, and according to the amount consumed and time consuming. Conclusions: the consumption of chimo produces alterations at a cellular level in the oral mucosa; changes that are directly related to the amount consumed daily, allowing to establish once more that the cytology is a useful means of diagnosis, effective, simple; that can be used routinely in the dentist's office in all patients who are considered high-risk for the development of some type of injury that may become a future in a oral cancer.

Child and adolescent abuse and neglect of children is a growing social problem that is not limited to medical, legal or social services professions; Dental professionals must be able to identify, document, report and often help treat these patients and their families. This study is descriptive with retrospective Cross-sectional design, with a population consisting of all children and adolescents treated in Forensic Medicine of the CICPC (Merida, Venezuela) during the period from January 2010 to June 2013 with the aim of describing the clinical findings of dental interest in child and adolescent victims of abuse. Information was collected on a tab and the results are presented in tables and graphs of percentage bar. The findings showed that physical injuries caused by violent events are usually unnoticed, the most susceptible age group was 14-16 years, wounds located in lips were the most frequent  injuries, most of present dental lesions required general dental treatment. It is recommended to promote more research in order to know the magnitude of the impact of child and adolescent abuse.

Metastasis is the seeding of malignant tumor cells in a different place than the primary tumor. Metastatic lesions to the oral cavity are uncommon and represent 1% of all malignant neoplasms affecting his region. The diagnosis of metastatic lesions is challenging because they can show non-aggressive clinical findings mimicking benign lesions, which are more common in the oral mucosa. Colon adenocarcinoma is the most common type of gastrointestinal tract cancer and metastasis generally occurs to regional lymphnodes, liver, peritoneum, lungs or ovaries, but it is uncommon in supraclavicular regions; cases of metastasis from colon adenocarcinoma to the oral cavity have been reported. We report a case of a female diagnosed with colon adenocarcinoma who underwent clinical examination because of the presence of an oral mucosal lesion. After a systematic histological analysis, it was diagnosed as an adenocarcinoma moderately differentiated compatible with metastatic lesion. The purpose of reporting this case is establishing the importance of the histopathological differential diagnosis between primary tumor and metastatic lesions in the oral cavity. In addition, it was also aimed to highlight the important role of the pathological background in the clinical history and to guide the dentist in the management of lesions. As a result, the dentist can perform an early diagnosis at the right time and can provide to the patient the best options for treatment.

Osteosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm derived from bone cells, its idiopathic etiology has been associated with genetic predisposition, trauma or radiation therapy. It appears in the jaws of young adults average age 33. Histologically characterized by atypical osteoblasts and abnormal osteoid bone formation. This case study presents the histopathological report of a lesion found in a male patient aged 63, diagnosed by incisional biopsy as grade II maxillary osteosarcoma with aggregated osteomyelitis. Radical surgery of the lesion was performed, followed by histopathological analisys that confirmed the initial osteosarcoma report with a higher grade of severity. It is suggested that this maxillary osteosarcoma, unusual for elderly people with history of squamous cell carcinoma, not treated with radiotherapy, had an idiopathic ethiology and probably associated with patients with genetic predisposition for malignant tumors.
