Item type: Item , New observations on the status, occurrence and ecology of birds in Bolivia(British Ornithologists' Club, 2024) Paul van; Tini Wijpkema; Jacob T. Wijpkema; Miguel Montenegro-Avila; Nicole A. Avalos; J. Luis MartínezWe provide new information on the status, occurrence and ecology of birds in Bolivia gathered during seven years of avifaunal surveys (2017–23), with a focus on aquatic birds, as well as regions such as the Chaco, the Yungas, and Pando. We document five new species for Chuquisaca (Quebracho Crested Tinamou Eudromia formosa, Sharp-billed Canastero Asthenes pyrrholeuca, Scimitar-billed Woodcreeper Drymornis bridgesii, Brown Cacholote Pseudoseisura lophotes, Black-crested Finch Lophospingus pusillus), two for Tarija (Rufous-sided Crake Laterallus melanophaius, Red-backed Sierra Finch Idiopsar brachyurus), two for Pando (Uniform Crake Amaurolimnas concolor, Mississippi Kite Ictinia mississippiensis), two for Beni (Rusty-margined Guan Penelope superciliaris, Connecticut Warbler Oporornis agilis), two for Santa Cruz (Cloud-forest Screech Owl Megascops marshalli, Geoffroy's Daggerbill Schistes geoffroyi) and one for Cochabamba (Fiery-capped Manakin Machaeropterus pyrocephalus). Additionally, we provide the first breeding evidence for one subspecies (Patagonian Grebe Podiceps occipitalis occipitalis) and a range-wide elevational maximum for Hauxwell's Thrush Turdus hauxwelli.Item type: Item , Noteworthy records of birds from Pando including two new species for Bolivia(British Ornithologists' Club, 2023) Paul van; Tini Wijpkema; Jacob T. WijpkemaPando, the northernmost department of Bolivia, is mostly covered in Amazonian forest but has only recently started to be surveyed avifaunally. Here, we describe findings made during six expeditions in 2018–22, including two species new for Bolivia (Bonaparte's Parakeet Pyrrhura lucianii and Acre Tody-Tyrant Hemitriccus cohnhafti), four species new for Pando (Black-capped Tinamou Crypturellus atricapillus, Least Grebe Tachybaptus dominicanus, Broad-winged Hawk Buteo platypterus, Scarlet Tanager Piranga olivacea), a subspecies new for Bolivia (White-bellied Parrot Pionopsitta leucogaster xanthurus), a subspecies new for Pando (Crested Becard Pachyramphus validus validus) and the first departmental record of a doradito (Pseudocolopteryx sp.). Additionally, we document extensions to the known distributions of several other taxa, several of which are evidently benefitting from deforestation.Item type: Item , The discovery of Dwarf Tinamou Taoniscus nanus in Bolivia, with additional notable records from the country(British Ornithologists' Club, 2025) Paul van; Tini Wijpkema; Jacob T. Wijpkema; Gustavo Bernardino MalaccoWe provide new information on the status, occurrence and ecology of birds in Bolivia. Although we focus on discoveries made during recent (2024) field work, several records overlooked from previous field work are mentioned herein. We present the first evidence of Dwarf Tinamou Taoniscus nanus in Bolivia, approximately 1,500 km from its nearest known population in Goiás, central Brazil. We confirm the presence of Cryptic Flatbill Rhynchocyclus (olivaceus/aequinoctialis) cryptus in the country and argue that Eastern Olivaceous Flatbill R. (o.) guianensis is also likely to occur in easternmost Bolivia. Four new species for Beni (Rufous-thighed Kite Harpagus diodon, Lowland Hepatic Tanager Piranga flava, Pied Puffbird Notharchus tectus, Cliff Flycatcher Hirundinea ferruginea) are reported and one new species for Oruro (Great Kiskadee Pitangus sulphuratus).
