Item type: Item , Frecuencia de rasgos dentales no métricos presentes en una muestra de población venezolana de origen italiano, residente en el Estado Mérida(2019) Pierangelo Lunini; Remi UzcáteguiThe dental characters besides being readily visible to human eye also have a high heritability and can identify specific populations through traits of each ethnic group, like the Italians. The objective of this research is to study the frequency of non-metric dental traits of Venezuelans with Italian descent, resident in Merida state. For this, the ASUDAS methodology was applied in a sample of 12 individuals, men and women, Venezuelan descendants of Italians in first, second and third line, with ages between 16 and 30 years and full integrity of analyzed dental units. Presence/absence of 8 dental morphological features was observed. Data were analyzed with SPSS and frequency measurements were calculated for each variable. The results showed low and moderate frequencies of Carabelli complex, shovel shaped tooth, Y groove and cuspid 6, while for the hypocone and hypoconule, a higher prevalence was obtained. Recibido: 07-07- 2019 / Aceptado: 21-09 -19Item type: Item , Uso del láser de baja intensidad en odontología: Ortodoncia y periodoncia.(2014) María José Acosta; Diana Guerrero; Paola La Mantia; Pierangelo Lunini; Remi UzcáteguiIntroduction: The low level laser is a light beam with specific properties, different from ordinary light with high energy concentration, which interacts with the tissues achieving a therapeutic effect.Although many studies have been performed worldwide, little evidence is found in Spanish on applications of laser therapy in Orthodontics and Periodontics, so it was considered appropriate to perform a review of the literature to provide information about their applications in those areas. The aim is to upgrade the applications of laser therapy in periodontal and orthodontic treatments published in recent years specialized information sources as MEDLINE, SciELO, DOAJ, among others were consulted. Fifty one original studies conducted with human beings were selected. Findings: Orthodontics laser therapy reduces pain between 24 and 48 hours after application, accelerates tooth movement and causes increased epithelialization of ulcers. In periodontitis, gingivitis, oral mucositis and gingivectomy reduces inflammation and tissue repair. Conclusion: Laser therapy is an effective adjunct treatment to conventional periodontal and orthodontic procedures. It is recommended to inquire about other therapeutic laser applications in different areas of dentistry.
