First formal evidence and distribution extension of Erythrolamprus macrosomus (Amaral, 1936) (Serpentes: Dipsadidae) in Bolivia
(2022) Oliver Quinteros-Muñoz; Rene Carpio Real; Edson Pérez; Pedro Gómez-Murillo
Erythrolamprus macrosomus (Amaral, 1936) is a snake recently revalidated to the species level, with a known distribution in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We discovered a single specimen in Bolivia from the Department of Cochabamba, that corroborates this species in the country and extends its distribution westward.

First record and detailed description of calls from the Bolivian bamboo rat Dactylomys boliviensis in Carrasco National Park, Bolivia
(2025) Mauricio Ocampo; Rene Carpio Real; Jorge Espinoza-Echeverría; Lizette Siles
Introduction: Sound communication among conspecific mammals is quite common and facilitates various behavioral interactions. The Bolivian bamboo rat, Dactylomys boliviensis, like many other mammals, uses this system to mark its territory and attract females. Methods: We occasionally recorded the complete song of this species within Carrasco National Park, very close to the type locality, representing the first record of the species for the park. We compared our record with other calls from further northwest, near the border with Peru, and found significant differences in timing and structure. Results: The call consists of a strong staccato, is divided in 2 parts, and the dominant frequency is 1.16 kHz. Our results reveal considerable variation in the song between individuals. Discussion: The variation found may be influenced by factors such as individual size, soundscape limitations, changes in song structure due to distance, or even species differentiation. This record presents an opportunity for the scientific community to further investigate the causes of this call variation.

Higher than the others: Bothrops bilineatus (Wied-Neuwied, 1821) (Serpentes: Viperidae) a new altitudinal record and range extension in Bolivia
(Fundación Miguel Lillo, 2024) Oliver Quinteros-Muñoz; Bladimir Marca; Rene Carpio Real; Pedro Gómez-Murillo; Edwin Coaquira; Jorge Espinoza-Echeverría
We report a new altitudinal record for Bothrops bilineatus (Wied-Neuwied, 1821) in the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia, based on verifiable records from the Yungas ecoregion of the department. This work not only corroborates the highest record for Bolivia, but also extends the record of the species by more than 50 km to the southeast, from the closest record in Villa Tunari, Cochabamba, Bolivia. The first record of the species for the Yungas ecoregion in Bolivia is formally confirmed. The highest record for the species in South America is also confirmed.

Revised distribution, phenotypic variation and conservation status of Liolaemus fittkaui (Squamata: Liolaemidae), a lizard endemic to the Andes of Central Bolivia
(University of São Paulo, 2016) Octavio Jiménez‐Robles; Pablo Butron-Galvez; Rene Carpio Real; Ignacio De la Riva

The Amazon Green Anole, Anolis punctatus Daudin 1802 (Squamata: Dactyloidae): A new geographic and elevational record in Bolivia
(University of Kansas, 2022) Oliver Quinteros; Rene Carpio Real; Edson Pérez Maldonado; Fidel Onofre Pacheco
At 2200 h on 15 January 2022, while conducting diurnal and nocturnal standard visual encounter surveys (Crump and Scott 1994) in a mature secondary forest and abandoned fallow crop, we encountered an adult male Anolis punctatus (76 mm SVL) on a leaf of a Tree Begonia (Begonia cf. parviflora) 1.90 m above the ground (Fig. 1) in an abandoned fallow crop near Yanamayu, Carrasco National Park, Cochabamba, Bolivia (1723'13.14"S, 6515'23.30"W; 1,005 m asl; Fig. 2) in the Yungas Boliviano-Peruanos ecoregion (Ibisch and Merida 2003). We collected the anole under permit MMAYANMABCCGDF/DGBAP/MEG N 0053/2019, extracted and preserved muscle tissue in 96% ethanol, and deposited the specimen in the Museo de Historia Natural Alcide d'Orbigny (MHNC-R 3200).
