Item type: Item , Dynamic Tendon Transfer for the Treatment of Palmar Midcarpal Instability: A Case Report(2019) Ricardo Monreal; Giovanni OsinagaMidcarpal instability (MCI) means dysfunction of the MC joint and the radiocarpal joint.Palmar MCI (PMCI) is the most common of these MCIs characterized by tilting of the proximal carpal row in a palmar direction.Symptomatic PMCI in a 37-year female patient was corrected transferring the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon to the hamate bone with good outcome.Item type: Item , Frozen Shoulder: Ambulatory Treatment with Hydraulic Distension(2017) Ricardo MonrealThe Open Access Journal of Surgery (OAJS) is a globally accepted journal that aims to publish innovative scientific developments and high quality information in all kinds of surgical research, education and clinical practiceItem type: Item , Percutaneous Trigger Finger Release in Outpatient Clinics(2018) Ricardo Monreal; Giovanni Osinaga; Yblin SevericheIntroduction:Trigger finger is a relatively common problem causing pain and disability of the hand. The first choice is conservative treatment. When conservative treatment fails, open release of the A12-4 pulley is recommended.Percutaneous release of trigger finger is advised by several authors. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of percutaneous release of trigger finger with 18 gauge needle.Materials and Methods: From January 2014 to December 2015, 18 patients (15 females and 3 males) underwent percutaneous trigger digit release using an 18-gauge hypodermic needle. Results: Seventeen of eighteen procedures (94.4%) led to complete relief of symptoms, and in the remaining, one-digit partial symptomatic relief was achieved. There were no complications. Conclusion: Percutaneous technique for release of trigger finger is safe, costeffective technique with significant patient satisfaction. This technique can be performed as an outpatient procedure.Item type: Item , Proximal Fibular Osteotomy (PFO) for Medial Compartment Osteoarthritis of Knee with Varus Deformity - Preliminary Report(2022) Ricardo MonrealIntroduction: Proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) is a surgical procedure to treat osteoarthritis involving the medial compartment of knee.PFO provides pain relief and delays the progression of degenerative changes. Patients and Methods:The present study included assessment radiological and functional outcomes of proximal fibular osteotomy in medial knee osteoarthritis.Three consecutive patients who underwent PFO were followed retrospectively. Results: Medial pain relief was observed in all patients after PFO.Radiographs of the weight-bearing lower extremity showed an average increase in the medial knee joint space postoperatively compared with preoperatively. Conclusion:PFO is a simple, safe, and fast surgical procedure to relieve pain and achieving improvement in knee function and it is a promising alternative for osteoarthritis of the medial compartment of the knee, for patients who cannot undergo or it necessary to delay total knee arthroplasty because of certain medical comorbidities. It may also constitute an alternative in developing countries because of their financial and healthcare delivery limitations.
