Applying this new hypotesis, along with elasticity theory and basic mathematical concepts for obtaining the failure envelope of a family of failure circles, the shear strenght has been determined to be such that Ts= f sa,sc , m,s where sa the normal stress on the discontinuity,sc the uniaxial compressive strenght of the in tact rock and the parameter the m and s are constant dependent upon the properties of the rock. An expression of this type will help us develop new methods of analysis of slope stability and support of galleries, design of anchor support systems in rock masses, estimation of the skin friction of poor quality rock in driven pile foundations, as well as in other innumerable related areas of geotechnology.Item type: Item , El cálculo variacional en la estabilidad de taludes(2001) Silvio Rojas; Roberto Ucar NavarroIn this article, we develop a numeric method that lets solve the stability analysis, which is based on the limiting equilibrium concept, the variation calculus and Mohr-Coulomb shear strength law. A function to the sn stress is derived to all slices. Furthermore, the sismic forces, punctual and distributed loads, are taken into account. This topic is very relevant, since we make a mathematical statement in order to let the geomechanic engineer have a different vision of the slope stability study. The contribution of this study is the use of the existing tools of the numeric analysis. Finally the results of the elaborated program that applies for this method by computer use are presented.
