Item type: Item , Atención Odontológica en una adolescente con Síndrome de Noonan: Reporte de un caso(2021) Fernanda Gonzalez; Roxana Cabezas CastilloIntroduction: Noonan Syndrome is a genetic disorder with autosomal dominant inheritance, characterized by short stature, craniofacial dysmorphism, hypertelorism, ptosis, rotated and low-set ears, thick helix, short and wide neck, wide-based nose and bulbous tip, congenital heart disease (pulmonary valvular stenosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), thoracic abnormalities and, in most cases, psychomotor retardation and intellectual disability. Objective: To describe the multidisciplinary approach for the care of an adolescent with Noonan Syndrome. Case Report: A 16-year-old female patient with Noonan Syndrome, began her Odontopediatric and Orthodontic treatment at the Universidad de los Andes Health Center at the age of 10. Clinical implications: Early treatment and the multidisciplinary approach are fundamental in adolescent patients, as they allow for adequate behavior management, facilitating timely promotion, prevention and rehabilitation actions, as well as early age orthodontic intervention that contribute to a harmonious maxillomandibular development. This approach requires follow up appointments during childhood and adolescence. Conclusion: The multidisciplinary management and treatment is fundamental and essential in adolescent patients, where family and long-term commitment reinforce the maintenance of oral health as a component of general health, thus improving their quality of life.Item type: Item , Item type: Item , ['Efficacy of ABA therapy in dental behavior management of patient with ASD, case report.', 'Eficacia de la terapia ABA en adaptación dental de paciente con TEA, reporte de caso.', 'Eficácia da terapia ABA na adaptação dental de paciente com TEA, relato de caso.'](2021) María Fernanda Espinoza; Javiera Cárdenas Peña; Roxana Cabezas CastilloItem type: Item , Eficacia de la terapia ABA en adaptación dental de paciente con TEA, reporte de caso.(2021) María Fernanda Espinoza; Javiera Cárdenas Peña; Roxana Cabezas CastilloIntroduction: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA “Applied Behavior Analysis”) is a therapy focused on the analysis and modification of human behavior. The procedures are based on the principles of behavior through systematic experimentation. It is frequently applied in people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Objective: Demonstrate the efficacy of ABA therapy in the dental care of a patient with ASD. Case report: Signed informed consent. 21-year-old male patient with ASD, permanent dentition, generalized gingivitis, dental calculus, high cariogenic risk. Patient under ABA therapy since he was 6 years old. The supragingival scaling was performed via ultrasound. Conclusion: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevalence of ASD is 1 out of 160 children worldwide. The main problem faced when treating patients with ASD is difficulty in establishing communication. Their oral health is often neglected due to a shortage of specialized dentists. ABA therapy is evidence-based. It is frequently used in these cases as it helps patients to cope better with the procedures. The basic techniques currently used in dentistry are not effective in managing the behavior of people with ASD during simple procedures in the dental office. The integration of ABA therapy to dental treatment increases the probability that patients will accept procedures and reduces the need to use approach techniques such as sedation and general anesthesia.
