This research about the feeding of the white-tailed deer was carried out at the locality of El Tibisi, Integral Forest Company of Las Minas, and it was aimed at evaluating the possible food sources in four vegetable formations (gallery forest, natural formation of Pinus tropicalis, plantation of Pinus caribaea and natural formation of pine-encino). For the realization of the research, 8 parcels were selected at each vegetable formation. Starting from its center, each parcel was devided into 4 rectangular –11,20 m long by 1,50 m wide–subparcels (128 altogether). In each subparcel, the pruned plants were identified, as well as their pruning frequency and the number of times each plant appeared although not having been pruned, with the purpose of determining the index of alimentary selectivity; to do so, the Index of Jacobs was used. The study also includes an analysis of the stomach content. It was verified that the white-tailed deer uses for feeding a total of 25 species of plants in the four vegetable formations; being the species Davilla rugosa (Bejuco Colorado de frutos amarillos); Coccocypselum guianensis (Oro Azul); Alibertia edulis (Pitajoni) y Faramea occidentalis (Cafetillo), the ones with the highest index of exploitation and therefore the tastiest. The gallery forest resulted to be the vegetable formation with the highest quantity of alimentary plants consumed by the deer.

The present morphometric and gravimetric study was carried out on 6 adult specimens of Odocoileus virginianus (white-tailed deer), three females and three males at the locality of El Tibisi, which is administrated by the Integral Forest Company of Minas Municipality. The parameters (length of the ears, length of the body, thoracic perimeter and body height) in each specimen were measured with a 1.5-meter-long measuring tape. The body mass (net weight) was registered with a 100 |kg| scale. The age of each specimen was determined by measuring the wear away of the teeth. The morphometric and gravimetric data of the males and females from the locality were compared with those described by different authors for this species at their places of origin. Moreover, males and females from the locality were compared among themselves, these, in turn, were compared to an equal number of males and females of similar ages from Guanahacabibes peninsula. It was verified that the morphometric and gravimetric data of the white-tailed deer from the locality match the range proposed for the species in Cuba and in their places of origin. There are significant differences: in the thoracic perimeter and the weight of the males and females from the locality of Tibisi; and in the length of the body and height of the body of the males and females from the localities of Guanahacabibes and Tibisi.

(2018) Yeney Ramos Camejo; Tamara Abrante Hernández; Zurama Hernández Pérez.; Geydis León Amador; Yanet Seijo Arencibia; Leonardo Ramírez Medina; Lázaro Yusnaviel García Padrón; Yordanka Lazo Alonso
As feedback tool for the Month Samples in the Natural History Museum Tranquilino Sandalio of Noda, studies that look for an approach to the historical-natural values in their public potential, and effective pedagogic mediations for understanding the museological message in their real public was carried out. This work exposes the results of the use of instruments of empiric exploration (it interviews) to determine the gnoseological elements and its affectivity on the public regarding the thematic and expositive format of the Month Sample “The American Crocodile”. The results show that the interviewed public's 83.3% acquires knowledge on this reptile species, being the guide's interaction with the visitor to communicate the message of the transitory exhibition, the one that facilitated the construction of the learning in more quantity; also it contributed to reinforcement the environmental education on the topic. These studies have promoted a new museological and museographic conception for our institution that assumes the exhibitions like a didactic instrument for culture promotion; it makes aware and the public's sensibility in environmental matter, facilitating the appreciation of the ecosystem dynamics and the processes in those the man participates. This conception conceives to the visitor like an active fellow and participative, that can interacting with the exhibition, from the physical point of view, cognitive and interpersonal, using the previous knowledge as associative and evaluative thought.

Experiences of the museum of natural history in the integral formation of the students of forest engineering
(2015) Rosmery Martínez Naranjo; Tamara Abrante Hernández; Yenisey Cimero Labrador; Gilberto Barrera Ramos
The Forest engineering developsthe curriculum strategies: environmental formation, based between their modes of action for evaluation and conservation in forest ecosystems, which has an irreplaceable role contributing to balance and improve the environment in general in this context where a close relationship with the Museum of Natural History is established .In this investigation the authors highlight the action plan arising from the strategy of cultural promotion of the activities of the Museum «Tranquilino Sandalio de Noda» directed to students of Forestry at the University of Pinar del Río.In the research theoretical methods were used: dialectic materialism; the historical and logical and modeling; among the techniques are the survey, in-depth interview and group interview. The results include a plan of action and the use of existing units in different rooms and teaching materials, taking as an example the birds that by their diversity have a systematic use in educational activities. These actions will increase the students' participation in museum activities and thus, cultural enrichment, their awareness and sensitivity on environmental issues will be facilitated by the appreciation of the natural heritage values that are represented there, with proposals departing from the exploration and use of the life experience of students, in which an active, transformer and autotransformer learning will be promoted.

As from the project “Ecosystems”, the design and assembly of the exposition: “The world of epiphytes” was carried out at the museum of natural history “Tranquilino Sandalio de Noda”. At methodological and theoretical work sessions, a multidisciplinary group designed the museology and museography of the exposition. The objectives, the scientific information and texts were elaborated. Expeditions to collect epiphytes (orchids, ferns and bromeliads) were set out at Guanahacabibes National Park, Pinar del Rio Botanic Garden and at Soroa Orquid Garden. The plants (exponents) were classified. The exhibit was set up in two sections: in the terrace (where living specimens were put up) and in the gallery (with photos and scientific drawings). This exhibition hall shows the organic and physical structure of the natural ecosystems where epiphytes live in, their dynamics of life, and the interdependent relations among organisms and their physical and biological environment. Updated scientific information on the ecology of epiphytes is facilitated, and the value of human attitude is highlighted, when consistent with the demands for survival and sustainability of the ecosystems where epiphytism is developed. The exhibition has attracted the public to the museum, to the world of epiphytes, and to its caring and conservation. The evaluation of the impacts of the exposition reflects satisfaction on the visitors. The exhibition constitutes a didactic-educational alternative to favour the enrichment of environmental culture, consciousness and sensitivity in the public.
