Prótesis parcial removible con adaptación maxilofacial
    (2009) Vielma Monserrate; Juan Carlos
The prosthetic rehabilitation of histic defects caused by a traumatic or congenital origin mostly depends on removable partial dentures held by holders placed over the teeth, where general principles of design for these dentures are used. Obturators that close the resultant defects from maxillary hemisection are incorporated to these prosthetic devices. The present clinical case shows a post surgical defect after a maxillary hemisection in which the unilateral resection of the posterior alveolar ride, posterior teeth and hard palate were performed. This type of lesion represents a Class II defect according to Aramany classification, and was managed by using a removable partial denture held by a hook with acrylic obturator to close the existing oral sinus communication and getting possible to replace the missing teeth in the maxillary. With this treatment it was possible to accomplish the required aesthetic and functional objectives.
