dc.description.abstractIn this research strategies to encourage reading with literary texts proposed for hospitalized children. The overall objective was to recognize reading as a social practice in hospital settings, specifically in pediatrics. The approach used was qualitative, in the form of action research and socio-critical paradigm. The techniques of direct observation and semistructured interview participant were used, as well. As an instrument for data collection is the notebook used. The research was conducted in the Central Hospital of San Cristobal, 9th floor, between the areas of medical pediatrics, surgery and oncology. It was attended by students of 4th and 5th year Industrial Technical School of Agricultural and Commercial Tulio Febres Cordero, of the town of San Juan de Colon, in Tachira state. Through the results, the importance of reading in the hospital setting to be a means of channeling emotions in the little patient, in addition to learning and pleasure are understood. Also, the need to train apprentices as promoters of reading and include their observations in contributions for research.
