A review of how the teaching--learning process in the geological science has evolved is intended. In the fi rst place, the ways in which the various trends in education have infl uenced on the university teachers concerning educational matter, is analyzed. As a result, the educational fact at the university level is characterized. In this sense, it can be said that the university teachers conceive the educational task as something essentially simple, for which, it is suffi cient to have a good knowledge of the matter to teach, a lot of practice, and, in some cases (very few) some general slight knowledge of pedagogy, andragogy and educational psychology. As far as to the teaching- learning process of geology, until very recently, this could be characterized to be eminently encyclopedist, dominated for masterful classrooms, where pupils transmute in simple receptacle of information. That is why, a new vision of this process is mandatory, and that could be achieved if at least seven goals, in a short run are fulfi lled, with the intentions of achieving an exemplary citizen’s formation
