Representative democracy in Venezuela has been in place in the last four decades in the political life of the republic, which makes the system itself is sufficiently rooted in the majority of the population with a real support of acceptance that does not make us doubting its continuity. However, there have been many obstacles that democracy has had to face as a result of the deviations it has suffered. The “partycracy” (“partidocracia”) is one of the factors that weakened the foundations of the system, and became one of the causes of the deteriorating quality of life for ordinary Venezuelans. In this work we aim to unravel some of the questions that are asking the Venezuelans and political observers from other regions, about what happened in the country that has enjoyed huge monetary resources, product of the oil revenue, and has not managed to overcome its crisis, accentuated since 1983, when it devalued the currency, whose deterioration has been unstoppable thus far.
