Grain And Feed Trade Association

Abstract

The Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA) is an industrial organization whose objective is to represent international companies trading in grain, animal feedstuffs, pulses, and rice. Membership provides access to all of GAFTA's services, such as its trade policy and information services, dispute resolution, the Trade Assurance Scheme, Superintendents' and Analysts' Registers, etc. GAFTA is financed by contribution from its members, which ranged in 2007 from GBP 110 per annum for individuals, to GBP 1,615 per annum for UK trading principals. GAFTA is a standard industry association, in the sense that it seeks to represent the interest of its membership in domestic and global decision-making. Thus, GAFTA is active before national governments, the World Trade Organization and the Codex Alimentarius Commission, among others. Due to its pivotal role in the grain market, an important challenge faced by GAFTA relates to its position vis-a-vis global food security.
