A critique is being made on a comparison between two points of view on the particular practice of publishing the results of the scientific activities as papers to be distributed among the scientific community, 1) one that sees those papers as an actual, final product of the work and 2) one that sees them as an element for self improvement of the scientific practice and as media to disseminate knowledge for the whole society. It includes guidelines for the design of such a public service.esDisseminationPublishingSociology of scientific knowledgeProduct (mathematics)SociologyHumanitiesPolitical scienceLibrary scienceConocimiento como producto versus conocimiento como servicio: una visión crítica sistémica de los programas públicos de financiamiento a la cienciaarticle
