Francisco Morales Ardaya2026-03-222026-03-222006http://erevistas.saber.ula.ve/index.php/contexto/article/download/10869/10828https://andeanlibrary.org/handle/123456789/62029This rehearsal intends to demonstrate the plausibility of a new interpretation of a passage of the chapter VI, in the First Part of the Quijote, entitled “Del donoso y grande escrutionio que el cura y el barbero hicieron en la libreria de nuestro ingenioso hidalgo”: concretely, the trial that the priest Pero Perez emits on the novel of Tirante el Blanco. Diverse specialists of the Cervantine work have characterized the mentioned passage like one of the darkest or ambiguous of the novel, and they have risked hypothesis more or less probable to justify what, in a traditional reading, made according to the attribution of transitive meaning to the verb to deserve, it can be an absurdity. However, a reading of the passage based on the attribution from an intransitive meaning to the same verb, and the consideration of the second subordinate clause as an intensive serial construction, allow to interpret the trial of the priest in a coherent way.
