From the resin of this plant the essential oil was obtained by steam distillation. It was inspected by gas chromatography on a carbowax 20M column and showed 34 peaks, two of them represent around 70% of the essence. It was treated on a dry silicagel column and five fraccions of different polarity were obtained. The first fraction contained the two mayor components which were identified by GC MS analysis as a and s-pinene.This finding was confirmed by the C- 13 spectrum of the essential oil . CMR analysis permitted comparison of the essential oils obtained from fresh plants collected at different paramos. No differences in composition were found.esEssential oilSteam distillationGas chromatographyChromatographyFraction (chemistry)DistillationChemistryColumn (typography)MathematicsContribución al estudio de los componentes del aceite esencial de la Espeletia schultziiarticle
