First, it situates this phenomenon within the global context, while explaining the ways in which some internal causes of migration are exacerbated by an international framework that criss-crosses national borders. Second, the article establishes some historical precedents, including a review of those studies conducted previously on the topic. Third, it explores more recent problems of national migration, offering several explanations for increases in migration flows.
