Item type: Item , Alteraciones temporomandibulares. Revisión de la literatura.(2016) R Lorena Bustillos; Annia Manoochehri; M. Dolores Lozano Serrano; Sandra ZabalaTemporomandibular disorders (TMD) cover a range of clinical problems that compromise the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles or both. They are characterized by a set of signs and symptoms, among which the most relevant is the acute or chronic pain. The objective of this research is to synthesize information related to orofacial pain caused by the presence of temporomandibular disorders, which often go unnoticed for lack of a complete and detail clinical examination that includes the study of ATM leading to disorders in relations labor and social, consequently resulting in a decrease in quality of life. Regarding the etiology of TMD, the literature refers to its multifactorial etiology, where it mentions the role of bio psychosocial factors in the development and maintenance of signs and symptoms present as well as predisposing factors, such as stress, anxiety, degenerative arthritis and parafunctional habits, on which initiating and perpetuating factors act. Regarding the treatment, evidencereflects that it should be aimed in the first instance to painrelief, being possible to apply multimodal therapies implyingpreservation and maintenance of the role of ATM. The TMD to be successfully treated due to its etiology, require multidisciplinary care involving psychologists, neurologists, orthodontists, prosthodontists, oral surgeons and other specialists. Reporte de un caso.(2014) Annia Manoochehri; R Lorena Bustillos; Daniela Ramírez; Berliz García; Daniel Prado Campos; Adriana Úcar BarroetaObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a multifactorial syndrome of pathological origin characterized by the occurrence of repeated obstruction of the upper airways due to the over-relaxation of the soft tissues, the muscles of the tongue and soft palate, producing the narrowness of the road to hit the back wall of the throat, blocking the airway and results in snoring by forcing its inlet during inspiration and this the most obvious manifestation of OSA. Currently, the use of intraoral devices for the treatment of obstructive apnea have been implemented, those manage a change of the mandibular position favoring the opening of the airways and constitute an excellent alternative to conventional therapy including surgical and special appliances positive pressure. The aim of this study was to describe a case on alternative treatment for OSA. A prefabricated mandibular advancement device of SnoreMeds® house was used and was individualized to a 57-years old female patient diagnosed with OSA presenting snoring, daytime sleepiness and morning headaches. Weekly clinic visits were conducted during the first, third and sixth months to check device conditions and lack of complications, reaching snoring better condition and sleep deprivation. The need to improve the bone regeneration has led to the emergence of various methods to achieve it, but the high cost of these materials has limited their use. In recent years it has been implemented the use of inexpensive and non-toxic biomaterials, emerging the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) as a safe and profitable in the bone regenerative treatment. The aim of this investigation was to analyze bone regeneration in post-extraction socket with the use of PRP. It was performed an analytical experimental study, prospective and longitudinal. There were taken into account 15 post-extraction sockets of male and female patients, aged between 18 and 55 years old. After the extraction was made it was applied PRP in the alveolus, and successive radiographic controls were conducted: immediate postoperative, at 4 and 16 weeks post-surgery. The radiographic images were studied with ImageJ ® program, which recorded the changes in the socket. Radiographically, the process of bone regeneration was categorized in the range of moderate bone regeneration at 4 weeks, while at 16 weeks ostensible regeneration was achieved after application of PRP.Item type: Item , Prevalencia de caries y lesiones bucales en adultos mayores institucionalizados en Mérida, Venezuela.(2015) R Lorena Bustillos; A G Leylan Arellano; E V Reinaldo Zambrano; Annia ManoochehriEl envejecimiento es un proceso de cambios morfologicos y funcionales generales del organismo, que tienen lugar y se reflejan en la cavidad bucal. A G Leylan ArellanoWhen dentures are made, it is necessary to perform a series of adjustments post insertion. This adjustments process is indispensable to check the denture bases, because there would be over compression areas on the tissues as well as edges areas to harsh, irritating and over extension edges to damage the prosthetic field. To adjust correctly the denture bases is necessary to adjust the basilar surface and margins of the denture. This procedure is sometimes difficult to perform by the lack of availability of revealing material pressure, to indicate precisely where remove acrylic without the risk of abrasion, altering the support, the retention and stability to the denture. The purpose of this paper is to describe the technique of gentian violet combined with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and Violetsoport, as a thickening material to obtain a strong, consistent and sufficiently stable compound, to detect over compression areas on the denture bases and indicate where must be remove the basilar surface. In addition to its antibacterial and antifungal properties this technique represents a alternative simple, harmless to the patient, economic to the general practitioner, which achieves selective grinding of the denture base without risk of affecting denture functionalism
