Abstract

When dentures are made, it is necessary to perform a series of adjustments post insertion. This adjustments process is indispensable to check the denture bases, because there would be over compression areas on the tissues as well as edges areas to harsh, irritating and over extension edges to damage the prosthetic field. To adjust correctly the denture bases is necessary to adjust the basilar surface and margins of the denture. This procedure is sometimes difficult to perform by the lack of availability of revealing material pressure, to indicate precisely where remove acrylic without the risk of abrasion, altering the support, the retention and stability to the denture. The purpose of this paper is to describe the technique of gentian violet combined with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and Violetsoport, as a thickening material to obtain a strong, consistent and sufficiently stable compound, to detect over compression areas on the denture bases and indicate where must be remove the basilar surface. In addition to its antibacterial and antifungal properties this technique represents a alternative simple, harmless to the patient, economic to the general practitioner, which achieves selective grinding of the denture base without risk of affecting denture functionalism
