Item type: Item , Especies de lactobacillus potencialmente probióticos aisladas de cavidad bucal de niños nacidos por parto natural.(2019) Daylet R. Hernández; Génesis D. P. Cabezas; L. José Manuel Jiménez Medina; Yasmin Yinec Varela Rangel; Jajaira Oballos Salas; A. Aguilera MartínezRecently, the vertical transmission of the usual microbiota from mother to child during pregnancy has been stablished. However, since ancient times it has been accepted that during the passage through the birth canal the fetus had its first microbiological contact and was inoculated with the vaginal microbiota of the mother. Within the vaginal microbial universe coexist about 300 species of bacteria, Lactobacillus being the predominant genus, which performs protective probiotic functions. The objective of the present research consisted in verifying the presence of Lactobacillus spp. in oral samples of 17 neonates born by natural birth in the Gynecology-Obstetrics Unit of Hospital Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Merida-Venezuela during the third quarter of 2015. Prior consent of the parents and endorsement of the Hospital Directive, the sample was collected by swab of the cheeks, gums and floor of the mouth, inoculated in MRS broth and incubated at 37 °C for 48 hours in microaerobiosis. Subsequently, isolation was carried out on MRS agar under the same incubation conditions. Typical colonies were selected macroscopically, microscopic characteristics were evaluated, as well as preliminary tests for the genus Lactobacillus, obtaining 49 isolates. Six isolates were selected by biochemical identification resulting in 2 Lactobacillus acidophilus, 1 Lactobacillus plantarum, 2 Lactobacillus paracaseissp. paracasei and 1 Lactobacillus fermentum species widely recognized as probiotics. The findings obtained demonstrate the presence of Lactobacilli in the neonatal oral cavity and contribute to studies related to vertical transmission mother-child.Item type: Item , Frecuencia de aislamiento y susceptibilidad Enterococcus faecalis en pacientes endodónticos(2012) María Ángeles Rivas; Yulany Shadia; Ingry Daboin; Clara Díaz; Jajaira Oballos Salas; Leonidas Eduardo Urdaneta ParedesThis is a microbiological study of the bacteria in endodontic disease that is associated inflammation in the periapical tissues. The goal of the microbiological analysis of samples from root canals) was to improve the clinical management of pulp-periapical infections. Specifically, the investigators sought to determine the prevalence of Enterococcus faecalis in samples from endodontic patients and its susceptibility profile to ampicillin, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin and vancomycin. Data for this observational-descriptive study was collected via probabilistic sampling from patients undergoing endodontic treatment at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Los Andes (ULA). Thirty-two (32) samples obtained from root canals were analyzed in the Roberto Gabaldon laboratory at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Bioanalysis, ULA. The recovered strains of Enterococcus faecalis were then tested to determine resistance profile. The results showed a 12.5% prevalence of E. faecalis, with an observed high resistance to ciprofloxacin but susceptibility to vancomycin. The results indicate that indiscriminate or improper use of these agents may cause complications in patients due to antimicrobial-resistant strains of Enterococcus faecalis that may compromise the efficacy of endodontic treatment.Item type: Item , Probióticos en el tratamiento de la estomatitis subprotésica asociada a candida albicans. revisión de alcance.(2021) Francisco Xavier Poveda Paredes; Jajaira Oballos SalasDenture stomatitis (DS) associated with Candida species has been reported in several clinical and microbiological studies. DS grade II and III according to Newton; it involves the use of antifungal therapy, the effect of this one may be affected by drug interactions or a decrease in the effect associated with increasing antifungal resistance. Therefore, the present review offers an approach to the state of the art on the use of probiotic lactobacilli as adjunctive therapies in the treatment of lesions of subprosthetic stomatitis associated with C. albicans. A scoping review was carried out using the databases PubMed, Scielo, LILACS and Google Scholar, in order to search for clinical studies published in English and Spanish during the last 5 years, which described the action of probiotic lactobacilli strains such as therapy in ESP associated with C. albicans. From this search, 2,633 articles were found, after discarding those unrelated to the objective and filtering according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 46 articles were selected; discarding 33 duplicates, finally obtaining 12 articles. In general, the use of probiotic lactobacilli as a treatment for ESP associated with C. albicans showed favorable results. However, the few clinical trials available do not allow ratifying or extrapolating these effects to a larger population, also observing quite heterogeneous methodologies and the presence of intervening variables that see the results, which indicates the need to establish clinical trials with standardized protocols that lead to obtaining statistically significant results.
