Item type: Item , A BASIC program for estimating parameters of two animal populations subject to migrations between two zones(1987) Frédéric Lardeux; Stéphane LonckeItem type: Item , A Multimedia Tutorial for Charged-Particle Beam Dynamics. Final report(1999) Richard R. SilbarIn September 1995 WhistleSoft, Inc., began developing a computer-based multimedia tutorial for charged-particle beam dynamics under Phase II of a Small Business Innovative Research grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. In Phase I of this project (see its Final Report) we had developed several prototype multimedia modules using an authoring system on NeXTStep computers. Such a platform was never our intended target, and when we began Phase II we decided to make the change immediately to develop our tutorial modules for the Windows and Macintosh microcomputer market. This Report details our progress and accomplishments. It also gives a flavor of the look and feel of the presently available and upcoming modules. Item type: Item , Agricultural production amidst conflict : the effects of shocks, uncertainty and governance of non-state armed actors(2012) Maria A. Arias; Ana María IbáñezThis paper examines the effect of conflict on agricultural production of \nsmall-farmers. We use a unique household survey applied to 4.800 \nhouseholds in four micro-regions of Colombia. The survey collects \ndetailed information on households’ economic conditions, incidence of \nviolent shocks, and presence of non-state armed actors. We separate the \neffects of conflict on direct impacts, measured through conflict-induced \nshocks, and indirect impacts, measured through years of presence of nonstate \narmed actors. The results show the association between lower \nagricultural production and conflict transmits through different channels. \nIn regions with an intense conflict, yearly agricultural revenues per \nhectare and investments are lower, and households concentrate production \non seasonal crops and pasture. Presence of non-state armed actors is \nassociated with an immediate increase in production costs, lower access \nto formal financial institutions, and lower investments. The results \nsuggest that households are affected by indirect and direct impacts that \nmay induce sub-optimal agricultural decisions. Although traditional \nreconstruction efforts are crucial, post-conflict policies should also aim to \nreduce uncertainty and improve the rule of law to foster increases in \nproduction. An Evaluation of the Contractionary Devaluation Hypothesis(2006) Ricardo Bebczuk; Ugo Panizza; Arturo GalindoRecent empirical and theoretical literature on the impact of real exchange rate devaluations on economic performance questions the traditional expansionary effect generated within standard Mundell-Fleming models. Contractionary devaluations may arise when firms face maturity or currency mismatches that, when faced with real exchange rate depreciations, lead to balance-sheet effects that erode firms' wealth and lead to an output contraction. While some authors show that the standard Mundell-Fleming result may hold even in the presence of currency mismatches, others point out that, if the balance sheet effect is large enough, devaluations can be contractionary. Using a large panel of 57 countries across the world and various newly constructed measures of dollarization, we test whether the balance sheet effect hypothesis has been relevant during the past decades in explaining economic downturns. Additionally, we explore the channels through which devaluations can be contractionary; in particular, we explore whether investment and consumption decisions are negatively affected by exchange rate devaluations under currency mismatches. Depósito Legal 4-1-637-2022 P.O.(European Organization for Nuclear Research, 2022) FLORES AVILES, Gabriela PatriciaThis publication presents the scientific results of the pilot study conducted in the Tierra de los Lípez Transboundary Basin, developed under the Technical Cooperation Project BOL-7005 of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The study applies advanced isotope hydrology techniques to characterize groundwater dynamics in one of South America’s most arid high-altitude basins shared by Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. The research integrates stable isotopes (δ¹⁸O, δ²H, δ¹³C), radioactive isotopes (³H, ¹⁴C, ²²²Rn), hydrochemistry, hydrogeology, lithology, geophysics, topography, and GIS analyses to reconstruct the hydrodynamic functioning of the transboundary aquifer system, particularly the Laguna Colorada sub-basin. The results provide evidence on recharge mechanisms, evaporation processes, groundwater residence times, mixing patterns between shallow and deep flow systems, and discharge pathways toward the endorheic depressions of the region. The publication also establishes a conceptual hydrogeological model of the Tierra de los Lípez Transboundary Aquifer, contributing baseline scientific information essential for transboundary water governance, early cooperative frameworks, and hydrodiplomacy between neighboring countries. This document was conceptualized, led, and written by Gabriela Patricia Flores Avilés (PhD), as part of the national scientific program on isotope hydrology implemented by the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN). It represents one of the first comprehensive applications of nuclear techniques to transboundary aquifer assessment in Bolivia. Mora-Arbeláez; Daniela Rodríguez-Novoa; Laura Catalina Díaz-BarretoIncome shocks affect violence through the opportunity cost and rapacity effects. Existing studies focus on the impact of transitory shocks, especially commodity price innovations. This paper builds on this literature and studies the causal effect of permanent income shocks on armed conflict in Colombia. Using a rich dataset reporting all guerrilla and other armed groups' attacks by municipality between 2009 and 2014 and information on the provision of banking services, it shows that increasing bancarization leads to reductions in violence. These results have important implications for public policy in countries with a long history of violence. They suggest that promoting financial inclusion is useful for reducing conflict.Item type: Item , Barrages d'Afrique de l'Ouest(2016) Luc Ferry; Nadine Braquet; Patrick Le Goulven; Jean‐Claude Bader; Pierre‐Olivier Malaterre; François Molle; Jean-Christophe PoussinItem type: Item , Beyond the Roof: Access to Housing in the City of Cuenca(2019) Karen Luzardo Alarcón; Soraya Elizabeth Cárdenas; Mayra Alejandra QuishpiTransparency Note Academic review document prepared by students; it contains an exploratory sounding; original version 2019; data not updated.Item type: Item , Beyond the Roof: Access to Housing in the City of Cuenca(2019) Karen Luzardo Alarcón; Soraya Elizabeth Cárdenas; Mayra Alejandra QuishpiTransparency Note Academic review document prepared by students; it contains an exploratory sounding; original version 2019; data not updated.Item type: Item , Biological control of Aedes polynesiensis with the copepod Mesocyclops aspericornis. Tecnología, Sociedad y Educación(European Organization for Nuclear Research, 2024) Lucio López, Gonzalo Andrés; CAICEDO GUERRERO, YOWANNA KARINA; Rivera Guzmán, Sandra PatriciaInstituto Comercial Del Pacífico.
