La Chiquitania y los chiquitanos más allá del patrimonio jesuítico

Abstract

Resumen: El período jesuítico ocupa un lugar destacado en la historiografía sobre la Chiquitania e incide sobre la imagen que la región y el pueblo indígena chiquitano proyectan en la actualidad. A partir de este diagnóstico, se describen las circunstancias socio históricas de esa producción historiográfica en las que el rescate del patrimonio jesuítico, su reconocimiento a nivel internacional y la implementación de proyectos de desarrollo socioeconómico en torno de él sesgan la imagen de la región y de sus indígenas. Después de un repaso de los principales hitos de la organización política de los chiquitanos para reclamar por territorios indígenas, soslayada en la imagen tradicional y jesuítica de la Chiquitania, se analizan las posibles causas políticas y económicas del sesgo patrimonialista.Abstract: Most of historiography on Chiquitos and the chiquitanos is about the Jesuit period, and this has implications for the image of this region and its indigenous inhabitants. Based on this diagnosis, I describe the socio-historic circumstances of this historiography, where the rescue of the Jesuit heritage, its worldwide recognition, and the implementation of socioeconomic development projects around it distort the perception that people have about the Chiquitania and the chiquitanos. A review of the highlights of indigenous political organization to claim for territories, completely omitted in the traditional and Jesuit image of the Chiquitania, allows to analyse the politic and economic reasons for the mentioned distortion.
