The declaration of the World Health Organization (WHO) of COVID-19 as an international emergency brought with it speculation in Mexico about the arrival of the virus, meanwhile, the confirmation of the first case in February had negative consequences on the national economy. This is why this research focuses on companies and bank loans, which are a liquid source of financing for them. The objective of this research is to analyze the behavior of bank loans granted to companies in order to determine whether the increase in the average amount of loans acquired as a source of financing is derived from speculation about the economic effects of the pandemic. A hypothesis test was used on two samples of the amount of bank loans acquired by companies according to economic activity in the January-March quarter of 2019 and 2020. The results showed that, despite observing higher amounts in 2020, it is not possible to confirm an increase in the average amount of credits acquired, which provides a basis for investigating the survival of companies in the April-June quarter of 2020.
