In the present investigation is studied the gender violence committed by men against women who cohabiting in Merida city during the colonial period, appreciated in the context of the values accepted by society, which implicitly allowed certain levels of violence , which legitimized the dominance of men over women generating gender violence. Th e analysis refers to the conduct of the Merida colonial society, especially given the persistence of honor, in which some actions of the women were considered dishonest and off ensive prompting fi erce punishment, washing bloody family dishonor. Th e study is based on literature and newspaper archives on the topic, and existing document collections in the General State Archives Merida (GSAM), particularly in the Criminal Section, specifi cally funds Homicide and Violent Death, like that of wounds.
