The purpose of this article is to offer an updated view on Strategic Thinking and its association to managerial success, particularly in Primary Health Care (PHC). The methodology used was the literature review with a critical approach, whose findings account for the current situation of health organizations, their management and their potential for the future. Taking into account that PHC was conceived as a strategy for global health almost 50 years ago, the need for its renewal to adapt it to today’s society, immersed in a globalized world, arises. The study points out the importance for the health manager to develop a true strategic thinking, proposing in the end, certain challenges that this must overcome to learn to think strategically.
