The objective of the present research was to explore the beliefs about traditional diseases in health professionals working as teachers and researchers at the University of Los Andes. This research was qualitative and ethnographic; the purposive sample was constituted by 10 health professionals: seven doctors and three dentists whose age ranged between 30 and 45 years; six were female and four men. They all were faculty and researchers at the University of Los Andes and also work in private practice. An open in-depth interview was conducted. The answers were recorded and transcribed. Some annotations were also made to record non-verbal behavior. It was observed that beliefs about traditional diseases persist in the subjectivity of health professionals who work as teachers and researchers at the University of Los Andes. In the same way they show beliefs about reality or cultural phenomenon of traditional medicine, it is generally observed a trend to live this reality in parallel with the academic-practical advices of their formation.
