El alcohol y la hoja de coca ¿vicios indígenas?: La prensa estigmatizando a las revueltas indígenas

Abstract

La Guerra Federal de 1899 y los acontecimientos suscitados por los indígenas aymaras en el altiplano boliviano, marcan de manera profunda-durante un siglo y más- en el imaginario de los articulistas de la prensa escrita. Por las implicancias sociopolíticas y socioculturales y por la correspondencia discursiva e ideológica con la oligarquía, la prensa se constituye en el espacio que estigmatiza, subalterniza e invisibiliza los levantamientos indígenas. Entre las estrategias que emplean los articulistas para estigmatizar las luchas indígenas-campesinas, es recurrir, durante diferentes periodos, al discurso del consumo excesivo de alcohol y de hoja de coca por parte del indio, con el objetivo de minimizar las capacidades política-ideológicas de las sublevaciones indígenas que ponen en vilo al orden hegemónico. Esta estrategia se emplea recurrentemente desde 1899 hasta principios del siglo XXI.

The Federal War of 1899 and the events raised by aymara indians in the Bolivian highlands, deeply affected, for a century and more, in the imagination of writers for the press. For the socio-political and socio-cultural implications for the discursive and ideological similarity with the oligarchy, the press becomes the space that stigmatizes and invisible subalterniza Indian uprisings. This strategy is used repeatedly since 1899 to the early twenty-first century.
