Bolivia underwent a convoluted period in the last trimester of 2019. The elections that were supposed to define if Evo Morales would be elected for a fourth term were canceled over accusations of fraud and unleashed a struggle. This paper addresses the moments of strength and weakness of the Movimiento Al Socialismo (Movement Towards Socialism) as well as the emergence in the political arena of new and not-so-new conservative leaderships. Mistakes and missteps made the government an easy target, even after 14 years of political power management. Both fraud and coup d’etat narratives that shall be regarded not as explanations on the events and rather part of tactics in a new set of strengths between political actors.
