This study was aimed at determining the relation between socio-ethnographic features of academics of two faculties at the University of the Andes in Venezuela, and the knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and how frequent this is used. It is a descriptive-relational study for which a questionnaire measuring academics’ ICT skills was designed. The results show that academics trained in scientific and technical areas know ICT more and use it more frequently than the ones trained in social sciences. Additionally, length of service and promotion ladder heavily influence this: academics, who are at the bottom of the promotion ladder and whose service is not long, are more likely to know ICT more and use it more frequently in teaching.
